5 hacks to speed up your makeup routine
Last week I had a Zoom presentation for work but instead of spending too much time doing my makeup for a 30 min video call, I challenged myself to get Zoom-ready in 10 mins so that I still look done-up but with minimal effort!
I realised that there must be many of you out there facing the same struggle and I wanted to share a few easy tips which can help you cut down your routine - whether it be for Zoom video calls, Insta photoshoots or just your regular makeup routine! Keep reading to read my hacks and let me know if you have anymore in the comments section below!
Figure out what coverage you want to achieve for your makeup look
It’s important to decide whether or not you would like light/medium coverage from your makeup or something more full coverage. This is so that you can choose the best makeup tools to achieve this. Beauty sponges are typically for lighter coverage looks whereas brushes, especially kabuki brushes, would give a much more full coverage look.
Store the products you use the most in one makeup bag
This might be obvious for some but it will make your routine so much quicker to store all your fave products together. Countless times I’ve misplaced a specific product I really wanted to wear and couldn’t find it on time!
Figure out what features you would like to emphasis
If you don’t have much time, it’s always easier to choose one feature you would really like to emphasis and keep the rest of your look simple. If you would like to draw attention to your eyes but you’re out of time, you could opt for a simple base (maybe skip the foundation and use a bit of concealer instead?) so you have more time for eyeshadow/winged liner/falsies. When I’m in a rush, I usually spend more time on my base using concealer, blush and highlighter with just a coat of mascara.
Go for products that are multi-purpose
Not only can you apply the product at once but it will also cut down the number of products you use. Why not go for a cheek tint which can double up as a lip colour or a cream eyeshadow? I like using my contour/blush/highlighter palettes for my eye makeup too! I also love using the multi-use complexion powder by Too Faced as it helps control shine and adds some coverage to even out my skin tone. A tinted SPF could also save you so much time - more about this here!
Don’t apply your makeup immediately after applying your skincare
This might not apply to everyone but for me, I think its essential to have at least a 10min window between applying your skincare products and your makeup products. This will ensure that your skincare products are fully absorbed into the skin which is especially important if you have been layering on multiple serums and creams. I’ve also noticed that base products could end up looking streaky on top of your moisturiser if you don’t wait long enough. I’ve had questions in the past about foundation forming small rolls/dry patches and this is usually because the ingredients in your skincare don’t bind well with the ones in your foundation. From keeping a 10min window between skincare and makeup, you are allowing your skincare products to be fully absorbed and preventing this from happening.
Hope these hacks help you cut down your makeup routine so you can catch more zzz’s in bed!
