La Roche-Posay Anthelois SPF - Current No Foundation Routine Saviour

Some of the best skincare products are discovered by accident.

So the above quote is definitely true from my experience - There have been times where I’ve bought a product in the wrong shade, consistency or brand but have then found a new purpose for it altogether and loved it more than anticipated! The same goes for La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios SPF Cream, which has completely changed my opinion on tinted moisturisers.

For some context, I was looking for a SPF the day before I was flying out for my holiday as my current SPF was inconveniently running low. I was in Boots and came across La Roche-Posay who’s SPF I had tried before as a sample - I remembered how much I liked it for its thin consistency and SPF50+ protection. I had no idea what it was called but on the shelf before me, there were 4 different types of SPF creams. As I was in a hurry, I scanned the packaging of all of them and settled for the one above. My skin scars easily and being in the sun can darken these a lot so when I saw the keyword “pigmentation”, I knew this would be the one! It wasn’t until the next morning (day of flight) that I realised this was in fact a tinted cream..!

I applied the SPF anyway despite it being a shade too dark for me and used my fingers to blend it out, as I would with a normal moisturiser. The consistency was quite thick and had medium coverage which gave a dewy finish. I set this with my Too Faced multi-use powder and added a tiny bit of bronzer and blusher too before setting with my Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. I was pretty happy with the outcome and felt like my skintone was even without a heavy foundation feeling on my face. My friends actually thought I was wearing makeup too so I definitely think this would be perfect for someone who’s looking for coverage without wearing a foundation.

I wore this throughout the 9hours+ plane journey and it lasted pretty well although I did have to powder my face towards the end of the flight. Coverage wise, my skin still looked even and I had good coverage on blemishes while looking natural overall. I was impressed with how this accidental buy was turning out! I expected the SPF to dry out and separate due to the aircon and general plane air but this held out pretty well!

Since then, I have worn this SPF for days where I want light coverage but after experimenting with different looks, I love using this product to replace foundation in a full-face routine. For me, this is a product I would wear to work (once we are back in the office) or a casual day out. The only downside to this product so far is that there is only one shade available. I think this shade would suit anyone around NC30-35. However, this experience has inspired me to try out more tinted moisturisers from different brands in the future to achieve a medium/full coverage makeup look without the heaviness of a full-coverage foundation.

Below are the products I used to achieve this no-foundation look using La Roche Posay as my base!
