#KavitaTakesTanzania - The secret guide to waterproof, heatproof, weatherproof makeup that lasts all day!

IMG_0438.jpg

There are two types of people in this world:

  1. The type that wouldn't dream of wearing makeup on holiday. πŸ™…πŸ½

  2. The type that can't wait to try out different makeup looks every day while they're away. πŸ’πŸ½

If you associate yourself with the second type, keep reading! In this post, I'll be sharing what products and techniques I used to make sure my makeup lasted through 30Β°c+ heat paired with humidity, the occasional downpour of rain, sand being blown into my face, dolphin splashes and more! *I actually forgot to pack my makeup setting spray and I only realised once I reached TZ - I thought I had ruined all chances of nice holiday pics but I was motivated to overcome this challenge and somehow, I did!*

Maybelline Superstay Foundation

Although I didn't plan to wear a full face of makeup every day, I ended up doing so because of how amazing this Maybelline Superstay foundation is! I bought this foundation just before my holiday because it was so hyped up online and there was no better time to test it out than in a super hot, humid and adventurous holiday. It's safe to say that this product passed the test! This is probably my favourite highstreet foundation and even though they don't have the largest shade range, I was able to find a shade that was pretty much perfect for me. The formula is so lightweight and covers everything that needs to be covered and not once did it look cakey on my skin. I received so many compliments on how naturally flawless my skin looked while I was there and I have to thank this foundation for that!I used a flat kabuki brush or the Real Techniques Expert Face brush to buff this foundation into my skin for the best coverage. I found that applying the rest of my makeup on top of this foundation was so smooth and effortless - it really was the star makeup product from my trip! I set my under eyes and my t-zone lightly with Charlotte Tilbury's Airbrush Flawless Finishing Powder and this does exactly what the name says! I have combination skin and even though at times I felt like I was really hot and my makeup MUST be melting off my face, it wasn't! My face would become a little shiny around the nose area by the end of the day but nothing a blotting paper couldn't fix!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer

This concealer is my go-to product for the same reasons I love the Maybelline foundation - it's high coverage but lightweight and extremely blendable on the skin. This is also a product you can wear alone without foundation to spot conceal for a natural, flawless finish. This concealer is best blended out with a damp beauty blender and I really like taking my time to beat this into my skin, it's the best way to stop creasing and look fresh all day!

LA Girl Pro Concealer

I use this concealer in the shade Toast to contour my cheekbones, temples and nose and this blends so so well on top of the Maybelline foundation. I don't usually use this with my other foundations because it's just too much effort to blend but I loved using this product because it gave me that naturally-defined contoured look. The makeup I am wearing in the below selfie was applied at 4am and this selfie was taken at 1pm (total wear time = 9 hours). At this point, I had survived running through the Spice Tour jungle in heavy rain & being outdoors in 32Β°c heat. Apart from some makeup being wiped off my forehead and some lipstick transfer on my chin, I don't think my makeup looks too bad!

Anastasia x Nicole Guerriero Highlight Palette

Whenever I travel, this is always the highlighter palette I pick up! It has a good range of intense highlighters which I use for highlighting the face but also as an eyeshadow! I love mixing the colours to achieve the look I want according to my mood and I can always guarantee that I will be glowing. βœ¨ I use this with a damp beauty blender for a glowing-from-within look, or a tapered highlighting brush/fan brush for a more obnoxious sweep of highlight across the top of my cheekbones! This highlighter (along with the rest of my makeup) survived being splashed by sea water several times by dolphins and if that doesn't prove how intense and long-wearing this highlighter is, I don't know what is!

Nip+Fab Contour Palette

Just like the Anastasia palette, this contour palette is always with me when I travel. I love it because a little goes a long way and it's multipurpose too. I use this as a contour and bronzer but it's also easy to create a warm eyeshadow look. This does not go patchy when applied or throughout the day like other contouring powders I've used in the past. It lasts all day and its an affordable product too!In the below pic, you can see all the makeup products I've mentioned in action after 10+ hours with no touch-ups! On the eyes, I am wearing the elf Mad for Matte eyeshadow palette (full review here).

Those are all the products I give credit too for helping me achieve waterproof, heatproof and weatherproof makeup while I was in TZ! I haven't included primer because I genuinely forgot to wear primer some days and I don't think it had much of an impact on the longevity of my makeup.

Generally, layering thin layers of makeup lasts and looks more flawless than layering thick layers so always look for products that are lightweight but still offer the coverage you're looking for. All the products I've mentioned are ones I love using and I gravitate to them when I'm not trying to experiment with new products. For higher coverage, always use a brush to buff the product into your skin and set your makeup if you have a combination/oily skin-type to keep your makeup from sliding. Blotting papers are ideal to carry around with you in case you need to get rid of some excess oil without having to add extra powder to your face.
