How to: Korean Glass Skin

What is Glass Skin?
Glass skin is the name given to hydrated, youthful and flawless-looking skin that reflects that natural 'glow-from-within'. ✨ Glass Skin is all about getting the perfect base and is usually worn with simple eye makeup and a light layer of lip gloss or lip tint.
Why do I need Glass Skin?
Because who doesn't want to look like a real-life doll? 🤷🏻♀️
How do I get Glass Skin?
Mastering this technique involves getting your skincare right and applying your makeup products well so you create the ultimate natural "no makeup" look. So let's cover everything in skincare and makeup to get you that Glass Skin!Skincare
Start off with exfoliating your skin with your favourite exfoliator. Recently I've been loving my AHA Peel from The Ordinary. Read all about it here. This will remove any dead skin on the skin's surface which will help diminish the dullness and welcome the radiance!
Hyaluronic Acid is your best friend for Glass Skin! It will hydrate your skin which will instantly plump up your face making you look more awake and healthy. After exfoliating, your skin will really be able to take in product better.
SHEET MASK! My favourite part of this routine! Sheet masks are amazing at feeding your skin with essential vitamins which again, will hydrate your skin but you can even opt for sheet masks with vitamin C or A which will brighten your complexion over consistent use.
Apply your SPF. A very important step in any skincare routine! This will keep your skin bright and will protect you from the sun enhancing any skin imperfections. Glass Skin is all about having an even complexion so this is a must.
Moisturise! Now your skin will probably feel super hydrated after the above steps but makeup will apply a lot smoother on well-moisturised skin. Hyaluronic acid and sheet masks contain minerals of a thinner consistency which can penetrate deeper into the skin. However, moisturisers are usually made up of larger molecules meaning they are able to moisturise at the skin's surface level.
Makeup
Allow 5-10 minutes for all your skincare products to absorb into the skin before priming your face. I used L'Oreal's pore refining primer shot to give me a smoother base by minimising your pores. If pores aren't a problem for you, maybe opt for an illuminating primer instead!
To even out my skin I colour corrected areas of my face. This will help my overall base look even.
For my base, I used Maybelline's Super Cover BB Cream which is medium coverage but really lightweight. Unfortunately, this product is only available in Japan but a similar product would be the serum foundation from The Ordinary. Any base product which is water-based would work - we want to look naturally flawless not caked on!
I used Urban Decay's concealer to brighten under the eyes, nose bridge, forehead and chin. This is important as it will add dimension to your face! I lightly set these areas with loose powder and did not set the rest of my face.
I lightly contoured with Benefit's Hoola bronzer to elevate my cheekbones and add some warmth to the perimeters of my face. I then followed up with Sleek's Rose Gold blusher on my cheeks for a flush of colour and some extra glow.
After spritzing my face with the Pixi Glow Mist, I used a damp beauty blender to add some highlight to the high points of my face with Kiko 208. Using a damp beauty blender gives a more natural look and really pushes the product into your skin, giving you a well-blended and flawless "glass-like" finish.
I finished off with some light eye makeup using the Meteor Crush and Mars on Fire shades from Fenty's Galaxy palette on my lids. I blended this into the crease using the Hoola bronzer and added a mixture of Sunburnt (also from the Galaxy palette) with Kiko 208 to my inner tear-duct and brow bone.
Finally, I lined my lips with a nude lipliner and topped my lips with NYX's Glam Aqua Luxe lipgloss in the shade VIP. A lipgloss works best with this makeup look over a matte lip which is slightly too strong as the aim of this look is to draw attention to our skin.
...and there you go! That is exactly how I recreated the Glass Skin makeup trend. The key to this look is skin prep and using a light hand when it comes to applying your makeup - less is more. I hope this post was insightful and if you do try out this look then let me know your thoughts!
