Travel Tips: Skin survival hacks for long-haul flights

UPDATE: I'm going away for the next couple weeks! πŸ™ŒπŸ½ Be sure to follow me on Instagram for more regular updates on my travels but for today's post, I wanted to share some skincare tips for long-haul flights. You probably already know how crazy I am about my daily skincare routine so when it comes to travelling, you know I'm going to be 'extra'!

Flying really does affect your skin and so prepping what you're going to take on board with you is key! Whatever you do to your skin while on Earth, you need to amp it up for when you're flying. Your skin will be deprived of moisture so it's all about hydration, hydration, hydration! I didn't want to arrive at my destination looking dull and dehydrated so I carefully picked some essentials that are perfect for stepping off the plane looking glowy. ✨ The only problem is...you're only allowed to take one 20x20 resealable bag filled with liquids in containers no more than 100ml. I didn't see this as a threat, I took the challenge and managed to pack every single item I needed into my little resealable bag - keep reading to see how!

What I managed to squeeze into the tiny resealable bag

  • Antibacterial hand gel

  • Hand wipes

  • Roll-on deodorant

  • Mouthwash

  • Toothpaste

  • Lip balm

  • Collagen Eye Masks

  • Sheet masks

  • Contact lenses solution

  • Contact lenses case

  • Eye cream

  • Eye drops

  • Face serum

  • SPF

  • Night cream

  • Micellar Water

  • Pixi Glow Mist

I know that might seem a little excessive for some of you but they are all essentials! It's more beneficial to wear lots of thin layers of face creams than to just layer one which is why I opted to take so many with me. How did they fit? Most of the items were travel sized which helped a lot! I then packed the full-sized versions in my check-in luggage so I have enough for my whole trip. Carrying a facial spray is super handy when you need a refresher during your journey or need a boost of hydration after you've applied all your creams. If you've read this and still feel like you're being OTT if you packed all these for your next trip, I think the most vital products to take from the above list would be:

  • Antibacterial hand gel

  • Deodorant

  • Mouthwash

  • Lip Balm

  • Eye drops

  • Night cream/Intensive day cream

You are usually given a mini toiletries kit onboard so you don't really need to bring your own toothpaste but it's always easier using one that you like! (Or this is just an example of me being extra.) It's always best to not wear makeup while flying because as your skin dries, your makeup will disintegrate making you look patchy - it can also lead to breakouts! So if you do decide to wear makeup, make sure you take some makeup remover wipes/micellar water to take it off so you feel fresh-faced when you land!Other things I like to take onboard with me to make sure I have a comfortable journey:

  • Neck Pillow

  • Flight Socks

  • Resistance Bands

  • A good book

  • A mirror

  • Glasses

  • Facial Massager (your face is more likely to become puffy while in the air so this is great for depuffing!)

  • Face towel

  • A mini ring light (gotta get those airport selfies)

  • Konjac sponge

  • A cap & shades (when you're sleep deprived/have a bad hair day and want to hide)

  • Money

  • Phone charger & power bank

  • Headphones

  • Some snacks (nothing worse than being hangry if your flight is delayed)

I think this is basically everything I packed with me...I'm kind of losing track of what I've decided to pack and what I decided to leave behind but I hope this post helped you in some way if you are planning to travel soon. It's low-key a reminder for whenever I travel again to make sure I've packed everything too (lol).

Most importantly, remember it's not the end of the world if you do forget anything! You can always buy whatever you need once you land. As a skincare-enthusiast, I'll admit I go a little overboard but I personally love to pamper myself and there is no better time to do so than on a flight when you don't have much else to do! I shall keep you updated on my travels and you might see some insta-stories of my journey so make sure you're following me on my socials linked below!
