First Impressions: Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant
Hey guys!
It's time for a first impressions post on some new skincare! π
First of all, I want to say thanks to Influenster and Dermalogica for sending these products out to me to test & review! Dermalogica is one of the best skincare brands in the industry and is recommended by many skincare professionals as well. I haven't used any products from them so I was excited to finally try out their products and see if it really lived up to the hype. This post will cover my first impressions but I will keep you updated on a post in 2-3 weeks time once these products have been more established in my skincare routine.I was sent 4 different products from their line so I will go through each one individually. None of these products include artificial fragrances, colours or parabens which is a major bonus!
Daily Superfoliant
The star product is their new Daily Superfoliant which is a daily powder exfoliator. This claims to resurface your skin, leaving you with smoother and younger looking skin. More specifically, it includes alpha hydroxy acids (deep cleanses pores) & activated Binchotan Charcoal (adsorbs environment pollutants known to irritate the skin). The product is aimed to prevent premature ageing caused by pollution ie. its perfect for those living in the city who come in contact with high levels of environmental pollution.
I've used this 3 times now and it really did leave my skin "squeaky clean"! It's a powder formula which dispenses easily from the 'd' shape at the top of the container. The powder is really fine - suitable for daily use, even for sensitive skin types. I dispense some of this on to the palm of my hand, add some drops of water and lather up to a soapy formula in my hands. It looks quite grainy in the below pic but once you add more water it does become bubbly. So far, I really like this product. I like that it's gentle enough for daily use and my face feels smooth and pure from any dirt/toxins after use.
Skin Smoothing Cream
This is a daily moisturiser that can be used day and night after cleansing. I'm always picky with moisturisers because for combination skin like mine, they are either too greasy/dry/don't sit well under makeup. I end up settling for gel-based moisturisers but this smoothing cream is perfect for a makeup base! It's not greasy at all and keeps my face well moisturised. The cream includes ingredients like Lecithin & Aloe Gel (moisturising), cucumber & Arnica (soothing) and vitamins C & E which help protect your skin from environmental damage. This product also claims to restore suppleness and tone your skin which I can't see signs of yet but so far I'm just impressed with how moisturising yet non-greasy the formula is! It's not too thick either so it spreads evenly & quickly onto the skin.
Precleanse Balm
This balm is the first step to your double-cleansing routine when taking your makeup off at the end of the day. It has a balm-to-oil formula and claims to break down your makeup (even if it's waterproof), detoxify your skin from impurities and excess build-up of sebum in the skin. This sample size balm also came with a cleansing mitt which I forgot to take a pic of but looks like this. I've only used this once and it's perfect for taking off a full face of makeup! To use this, apply a small amount to a cleansing mitt and use circular motions all over a damp face to break down your makeup. Within seconds it had broken down my makeup so I could see my actual skin - I was blown away with how easy I was able to cleanse my face! I love that it's a balm-to-oil formula - it's not as messy as using an oil cleanser which is what I usually use. I have sensitive eyes so I didn't use this around my eye area but it successfully removed 95% of my face makeup!
Special Cleansing Gel
This cleanser is the second step to a double-cleansing routine. It's a gel-formula that's soap-free that lathers up once applied to a a damp face. I've only used this once so far. It was soothing to use after the pre-cleanse balm to get rid of any extra impurities left on the skin. Even though the precleanse balm got rid of the majority of the makeup, I felt like I needed a soothing gel formula to finish off my cleansing routine. I think it worked well as a two-step cleansing routine but I don't think I would be able to use this cleansing gel alone to remove makeup.
That's all for my first impressions for these products! I will do another post with my final thoughts in a few weeks time. I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if you've used any of these products!
