Review: YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint Foundation

Foundation is one of the hardest makeup products to purchase - there are just so many factors to consider. Will it sit well on top of your current skincare products? Will it make you oily/dry throughout the day? Cakey? For this reason, I don’t buy foundation that often. If I find one I like, I hold on to it!

That’s why I was delighted when I got hold of a YSL’s bestseller sample, the Touche Éclat Le Teint foundation - I could try out a foundation without committing to a whole bottle. Even though I’m usually into full-coverage foundations, I was intrigued to see if I would be into a lighter foundation since I’ve become used to wearing minimal makeup throughout lockdown. Also, as lockdown restrictions are now easing, and like myself, many of you might not have worn makeup as often as before, I thought it would be helpful to review a lightweight foundation you can wear throughout the summer months.

The YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint foundation claims to be a weightless and breathable foundation that offers 24-hour hydration, a healthy glow with medium to buildable coverage.

Consistency & Application

The foundation is quite runny and has a silky texture to it. As it is a medium coverage foundation, I think the application would work great with either a beauty blender or a brush. I love using a brush for applying my base makeup so I used a flat-top kabuki brush to blend this out. Minimal effort was required for blending - it was so easy to distribute the product and the foundation was essentially undetectable on my skin (minus the slight tone difference which I mention below).

Coverage

In terms of coverage, this is a true medium coverage foundation with a dewy finish where coverage is buildable where needed. The foundation coverage is great to even out your complexion and give you a “my skin but better” look but if you’re hoping to gain full-coverage “insta-glam” makeup, I wouldn’t recommend this. You can see in the first pic below how well the foundation was able to cover up my veins without looking like I have makeup on my hand.

The colour range for the sample was quite limited and my ideal shade was out of stock so I opted for the next closest shade which was BR40 Cool Sand. This wasn’t the right undertone for me and was also a shade or two darker than what I would go for. Having said that, once I finished blending this foundation out, it wasn’t too bad! I set my makeup in place with powder and I was happy with the overall tone of the foundation and would consider wearing this again.

Wear & Longevity

The product claims to offer comfortable wear, hydration and breathable coverage for 24 hours. Although I didn’t wear this for a whole day, for the 8-10 hours I did wear this foundation (on a hot day) I can say that this foundation is definitely lightweight and comfortable to wear. I forgot I was even wearing a foundation and wearing this made me realise how heavy my other foundations are! The foundation does look very natural and has a dewy finish however I set this with powder for a more mattified finish which was still natural and not cakey.

Ingredients

The foundation is free from paraben and sulfates and also offers SPF 22 with PA++. (However, I would always recommend using SPF as a separate product, see my blog post here for info on SPF). The product does contain alcohol though so I wouldn’t recommend this for frequent wear if you have dry/flaky skin. Despite claiming to be a non-comedogenic product, there are a few ingredients with comedogenic ratings so this is something to be wary of if you have enlarged pores/oily skin.

Value

This foundation is currently £36 for a 30ml bottle which is the average price for a high-end foundation. Depending on how much coverage you’d prefer, this wouldn’t necessarily be a product you run through quickly due to the consistency of the product and how it’s easily blendable.

Overall, I’m impressed with how lightweight this foundation felt on my skin and it was refreshing to wear a foundation that wasn’t full coverage but still gave me enough for an even complexion. Although I don’t think I’m in a rush to go out and purchase this product right now, I would recommend trying this for anyone who prefers a medium coverage foundation or someone who is looking for an easy, flawless makeup look for summer! This would also be ideal for anyone who isn’t a frequent makeup wearer as it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and requires minimal effort for application.

Update 16/05/22 - I bought the foundation over the weekend in the same shade as this is now the best matching shade from the range for me!
